How to Decorate a Freshwater Fish Tank

How to Creatively Decorate a Freshwater Fish Tank

Most of the people who own one fish or more have one thing in common--a plain, boring fish tank! Just a few minor touch-ups (or even a couple major ones!) can add life and something unique to any aquarium.

Consider the size of your fish tank- a good rule of thumb is to have a gallon of water for every inch on the fish. More space means more room for decoration, and happier fish!.

Add gravel accessories. You can buy a small bag of specially made, multi-colored 'rocks' that stay on the bottom of the aquarium. These, as well as entertain the fish, can be color coordinated to the gravel or room. They can come in shapes such as plus signs, shells, and more.

Attach an aquarium background. These can be made to look like a scene inside a river, the bottom of the ocean, a different (lushly decorated) aquarium, and more. The fish are stimulated by the image, and the backgrounds are easy to attach, move, and change. They also add depth and beauty to an aquarium.

Buy bigger, wider, bushier and prettier plants. As well as the selection of plants at the pet store, there is also a very wide variety of plants online- jut use a search engine like Google! Put plants you choose in different locations, and switch out occasionally. It doesn't matter whether or not the tank is lush with flora or down to just one plant, aquatic plants add a lot of beauty to an aquarium.

Look at the selection of tank rocks or accessories. Some people may prefer rocks that look natural; but shipwrecks, castle ruins, bridges, and scuba divers can be good choices too. Lots of fish like to swim around, under, and over bridges and accessories with open holes and spaces.

Steps & Ways to set up a Guppy Tank

How to Set up a Guppy Tank

Guppies are very fun pets to own, but a proper habitat is key to your pets health. Read about making the proper habitat for your fishy friend.

Get a tank that is at least five gallons, but ten gallons is a better size.

Get some gravel (they have many cute colors available) that has enough pebbles to fill the bottom of your tank. You will want about 1-2 inches.

Get some fake, or real plants, and hiding spots and things like that (you can find a lot at pet stores) in your tank.

Place your filter system in the tank, as well as the tank heater. Note: Filters and heaters are not always necessary... but without them, you will have to clean the tank a lot more often to keep it clean, and to keep the water warm.

Fill the tank with water, however, make sure the water is about the same temp. as the previous enclosure, (bag, small plastic container, etc.) because it could kill the fish if it is way too cold or way too hot.

Cycle the tank.

Place the fish inside. Make sure they all look happy and healthy.

Ways to Keep Guppies Healthy - How to care for them

How to Keep Guppies Healthy

Take proper care of the aquarium providing home to the guppy fishes. Cleaning the guppy tank once in a while can get rid of most of the diseases and parasites that affect the guppies . Changing water regularly may help them to last longer without getting affected by diseases . Can you even think of a moment living under unclean surroundings . Guppies too cannot survive under such unclean conditions. Though its best to change aquarium water after every fortnight, make sure you at least replace it with fresh water when it starts to get cloudy or when it gives foul smell .

Minimize the fluctuations in water quality . Even though Guppies can adapt to minor fluctuations in water quality , try to make non-stressful water changes to maintain the health of Guppies . Non alkaline and warm water conditions can also be considered .The perfect temperature for an aquarium sheltering guppy fishes are about 72-80 Degree

When you introduce new guppies into a tank , they may carry many bacteria and parasites along with them , which can infect other fishes in that tank . Therefore the best solution is to release them in a separate tank and watch them for over a month to see whether they are carrying any pathogens .

Create a home like atmosphere for your guppies . If you can keep a guppy happy , this will be reflected in its health also. Try creating a friendly atmosphere by fixing more plants and by giving it enough room . The size of the tank should not be too small as it would make the fish feel uncomfortable . Adding coloured rocks and dead crushed coral might give pleasure to your guppies and also make your aquarium eye catchy .

Feeding is another most important factor which you should keep in mind while taking care of a Guppy . They can be fed twice or trice a day but make sure that you don't overfeed them . Supply them with their favourite food which include frozen and the flake foods. Ensure you do so, especially when their babies are in the aquarium because in the absence or scarcity of food , they are know for eating their young ones .

Check the equipments . Aquarium consists of lot of components such as pumps, filters etc which are installed for the life support of fishes . Malfunction of any of these components may greatly affect their health and therefore it would be best to clean them occasionally .

Test the pH of your water . pH is a measure of the acidity or basicity of a solution. If the difference of pH in your water and the water of the breeder you purchased from is more than .3 A , it can result in stressful conditions for the fish . If you are quite inclined to purchase a guppy from a tank with high pH difference , gather some water from the store and also add your water into the tank till the fish gets used to your pH .

Why Baby Guppies died easily - Ways to take care of Baby Guppies (Guppies Fry)

How to Care for Baby Guppies

Guppies are beautiful friendly freshwater fish that reproduce very easily. Their babies are very easy to take care of if you know what you are doing.

Survey your tank setup: Guppy fry are an excellent food source for most types of fish (even their parents). Separate fry from adult fish if possible. Placing them in their own separate tank is best, but if you do not have an extra aquarium you'll need to get a mesh "breeding tank". These devices go inside your existing aquarium, and serve as a holding pen for the fry or the adults. If you are going to keep the fry in this container, make sure it is mesh, otherwise they might swim out.

Check the Water quality: Guppy fry will grow fast when their water quality is good. To keep it pristine conditions use a test kit and test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Keep ammonia at 0 ppm., nitrite at 0 ppm., and nitrate at less than 10 ppm. Keep doing weekly water exchanges, but exercise caution not to suck up any fry.

Be sure you feed them well: Baby guppies need high quality foods to grow and be healthy. When they are first born use fry food or finely crushed flake food. As they get bigger keep using flake food.

Use a sponge filter or a very low power mechanical filter to keep water clean. Make sure the filter has some kind of protective sponge over the intake to prevent small fry from being sucked in.

Keep the water temperature at 75-80F. Do not let the water temperature get outside this range.

Check for illnesses: Diseased fry have a very low chance of surviving. Remove any sick fry immediately. Do not medicate a tank with fry in it, as it is too difficult for a regular fish keeper to use the right dosage.

Watch them grow: Monitor their growth, and place them back into the main aquarium once they are big enough not to be eaten. Make sure they are all growing fairly uniformly. Once they are all big enough, release them and watch them interact with their expanded world.
