KIEV - THE crocodile in 'Peter Pan' happily went 'tick-tock' after swallowing an alarm clock but a crocodile in Ukraine has been a little less fortunate.
Gena, a 14-year-old crocodile at the Dnipropetrovsk Oceanarium, has been refusing food and acting listless after eating a cell phone dropped by a woman trying to photograph him last month.
The phone kept ringing inside the crocodile for some time.
Phone owner Rimma Golovko says she wants her SIM card back as it contains her photos and contacts.
The crocodile will be taken to a clinic for an X-ray next week to see if the phone is still there. Medics are considering surgery as a last resort. -- AP

The Daily Mail reported that 11-year-old Elle Hiscott fell head-first when attempting the stunt at a school in the United Kingdom.
She did this after asking permission to use the toilet during a lesson, plunging two floors to the concrete floor below.
An inquest heard that staff were so worried about the craze among pupils at the school in Bethnal Green, East London, they took turns to patrol the stairwell.
But year-seven pupil Hiscott was caught on CCTV falling to the floor during lessons and she was found lying unconscious by two 12-year-olds after they were alerted by the sound of an impact.
Supply teacher David Merrilees said: 'I had just finished speaking to the class and I heard a loud thump from outside.
"Two of the girls from my class went out to investigate. I was walking towards the door and the girls came back in and said someone was lying on the floor.
"There was an eerie silence for a few moments."
Medical staff and an ambulance were called to Raine's Foundation School to treat Elle, who had multiple fractures of the skull.
However, eight days after the incident on October 13 last year, she died with her parents by her bedside at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Doctors had been unable to prevent her brain from swelling.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded at Poplar Coroner's Court on Elle, who lived with her mother Gemma Goodwin and brother George in Bow.

Baby died while lying on tummy - Four hours later, when she went to wake him up, he was not moving and his palms had turned purple
Baby died while lying on tummy
When babysitter Wong Poh Chun left her four-month-old charge after putting him to bed, he was lying on his stomach and sound asleep.
Four hours later, when she went to wake him up, he was not moving and his palms had turned purple.
At an inquest in Singapore on Thursday, State Coroner Victor Yeo said he was unable to ascertain the manner or the cause of the death.
The pathologist who examined Tan Yik Kiat's body said his death on July 27 was most likely due to natural causes linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or the result of an accidental death by suffocation.
Yik Kiat had been sleeping on a mattress with his tummy facing down, arms over his head and face tilted to the side.
The babysitter said this was how she would normally put her charges to bed, as they would sleep better and not be shocked by any sudden loud noises.

THE family of a toddler, who went missing for about 18 hours, believes there could be a supernatural factor behind her disappearance, Harian Metro reports.
Abdul Wahid Nordin, 52, who is the girl’s grandfather, said: “It is just not logical for a 22-month-old child to have been able to walk barefoot for almost 3km in the jungle.”
He said the family of Nor Aishah Umairah Zamzanuri was relieved that she was safe after being found by two orang asli at a rubber estate near Slim River, Perak, on Wednesday morning.
Except for some scratches on her leg and mosquito bite marks on her body, the girl is in good health.
A 70-member search-and-rescue team had earlier failed to find her.
> Berita Harian reported that a 66-year-old man died two days after his grandson beat him up for not giving him RM100.
Saad Man was admitted to the hospital last Thursday after he was repeatedly hit by his 22-year-old grandson, who flew into a rage when he failed to get the money.
A police report was made near Sungai Petani, Kedah. When the grandson found out about it, he got even more furious.
He went to his grandfather’s house again and kicked the older man several times, breaking his ribs.
Neighbours called the police and they remanded the grandson.

Temporary permits for 9,500 maids
Temporary permits for 9,500 maids
By IZATUN SHARI
newsdesk@thestar.com.my
PETALING JAYA: Indonesia has claimed that more than 9,500 temporary work permits have been issued to its nationals employed here as domestic workers in Malaysia despite a moratorium imposed by the republic since 2009.
An Indonesian Embassy official said, as such, the issuance of such work permits by the Immigration Department was not proper.
He said the embassy’s labour attache had received information that 9,560 temporary work permits had been issued to Indonesians to work as domestic maids.
“We wonder why this is happening as we have stopped sending maids to Malaysia since the moratorium was enforced,” he said when contacted by The Star yesterday.
He said prior to the moratorium, the embassy had data of Indonesian maids coming to Malaysia, adding that there was no information on temporary permits being issued now.
Indonesia froze the dispatch of its domestic workers to Malaysia in June 2009, following reports of alleged abuse by employers.
Immigration director-general Datuk Alias Ahmad said the department could issue temporary work permits to foreign workers who entered with a social visit pass.
“This is provided that there is proper documentation and agreement between the employer and the worker concerned,’’ he said, adding that approvals were given on a case-by-case basis.
Meanwhile, the embassy official also sought clarification on Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam’s statement that local employers were not keen to grant a weekly day off for Indonesian maids and for them to hold their passports.
“We are surprised by this because the two terms had been agreed upon in a letter of intent signed between both countries during the Indonesian president’s visit to Malaysia on May 18 last year,’’ he added.
The official said the Indonesian government was hopeful that the working committee on the recruitment and placement of Indonesian domestic workers would resume negotiations on the “stumbling blocks”, which included the cost structure and minimum wage issue, to enable the moratorium to be lifted.
About 35,000 families were desperately seeking domestic workers.
Dr Subramaniam said issues relating to Indonesian domestic workers were still being discussed with Indonesian authorities.

“Syuting dua bulan, jadi memang harus bagi waktu banget,” ungkapnya.

Jum'at, 21 Januari 2011 - 10:04 wib
