MALACCA: “I want justice for my son.” That is the lament of Tai Keng Yong whose son Tai Shi Yong was among three friends who were brutally murdered in a fight.
“My son was innocent and his death was in vain as he had nothing to do with the fight. I want my son back. I want those responsible for his death to pay,” said the sobbing 55-year-old outside the Malacca Hospital mortuary yesterday afternoon.
The businessman said his son, Shi Yong, 18, was the youngest and most filial among three of his sons.
“From what I have come to know is that his two other friends have had an ongoing tiff with another group of youths from outside Paya Mengkuang since last year and he had nothing to do with it,” he added.
The emotionally distraught Keng Yong also had a sheet of paper with 10 Chinese proverbs written on it, which he said would be made into large banner to be placed in front of his son’s cortege.
He added that the families of the two victims Chong Sai Keong, 17 and Lan Ee Shan, 20 have agreed that a joint funeral ceremony be held at the Memorial Park in Jelutong tomorrow.
“They were good friends and we agreed for all three to be cremated with their urns kept side by side at the memorial park,” he said.
Shi Yong, Chong and Lan were stabbed by a group of armed youths on motorcycles at about 10.15pm on Friday, some 1.5km from their homes in Taman Mengkuang.
It is believed that the three, who were also on motorcycles, had been provoked by the group who led them to an ambush along Jalan Kampung Solok Binjai in Pengkalan Balak.
Meanwhile, State CID chief DCP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said six males, aged between 17 and 37, were detained and remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigations.
The six were detained on Saturday evening from several locations in Masjid Tanah, he told reporters here yesterday.
He added more arrests are likely to follow. Police are also looking for Ling Jun Hon, 16, from Lubok Cina.
He urged those with information to contact ASP Mohd Zulkifli Yusof at 016-630 8222.

Web will soon run out of addresses for sites, devices - The Web is running out of addresses
Web will soon run out of addresses for sites, devices
INTERNET
Agence France-Presse in Palo Alto
Jan 24, 2011
The Web is running out of addresses.
With everything from smartphones to internet-linked appliances and cars getting online, the group entrusted with organising the Web is running out of the Internet Protocol (IP) numbers that identify destinations for digital traffic.
The touted solution to the problem is a switch to a standard called IPv6 that allows trillions of internet addresses - the present IPv4 standard provides a meagre four billion or so.
"The big pool in the sky that gives addresses is going to run out in the next several weeks," said Google engineer Lorenzo Colitti, who is leading the internet giant's transition to the new standard. "We have to do something and IPv6 is the only real long-term solution."
The pool in the sky is a fast-draining reservoir of IP addresses maintained by the non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann).
Icann has been calling for a change to IPv6 for years, but websites and internet service providers have been clinging to the old standard since the birth of the internet.
IPv6 would allow for a trillion people to each be assigned trillions of IP numbers, Icann chief Rod Beckstrom said.
With about seven billion people on the planet, the IPv4 protocol would not allow everyone to have a gadget with its own online address.
Once the supply of IPv4 addresses Icann distributes to the five regional centres around the world are gone, computers and other gadgets might have to start sharing instead of having unique identifying numbers.
"You will start to share with your neighbours, and that causes problems, because applications can't distinguish you apart," Colitti said.
"If your neighbour ends up in a blacklist, you will too. Systems would eventually have trouble handling multiple connections on shared addresses. Things will get slower and flakier."
The effort and expense of changing to IPv6 would fall mostly on internet service providers, websites and network operators that have to make sure systems can handle the new online addresses and properly route traffic.
Consumers, for the most part, should not notice the switch.
"It is important users don't worry," Colitti said, dismissing talk of an "IPocalypse".
Google, Facebook and other major internet players will add IPv6 addresses to their systems in a one-day trial run on June 8 to let all parties involved check for trouble spots.
"We need to kick the tyres on it at a global scale and see if there are some unforeseen problems," Colitti said.
In a worst-case scenario, running out of IPv4 addresses with no switch to IPv6 would mean new gadgets would not be able to connect to the internet because addresses would not be available, Icann says.
"Ideally, people will see nothing," Beckstrom said of a transition to IPv6.
But "if enough networks don't move to IPv6", he said, "people could literally see nothing, because they can't connect the next iPad, iPhone, or whatever".

Fujian-born Cheng finally a Malaysian after 42 years
PUTRAJAYA: In 1958, a young Cheng Eng Hock decided to come to Malaysia, confident that he could make a better life for himself here after hearing many great stories about the country.
After doing what he described as “this and that”, in the early years after he arrived, Cheng who hailed from Fujian province, China, started a business, got married and raised a family.
“My life in Malaysia has been good and I want to be part of this country. I was born in China but I spent most of my life here. Saya orang Malaysia-lah (I am a Malaysian),” he said.
A few weeks ago, the 70-year-old Cheng received news which he had been waiting for the past 40 years — that his application to become a citizen was approved.
“It may have been a long wait but it is worth it,” said the jovial Cheng.
Cheng was among 101 applicants from Selangor and the Federal Territory who received approval letters for citizenship from Deputy Home Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong yesterday.
Insurance manager Dolley Pereira is one happy mother now that her adopted daughter Sarah Anne, four, is officially a Malaysian.
“I submitted the citizenship application two years ago and I thank the parties concerned for making this happen,” said Pereira, whose daughter was adopted locally.
For fruit seller Ismail Baginda Enak, 67, the 30-year wait to become a Malaysian citizen was worth the long wait.
“I came to this country from Padang, Indonesia, when I was in my 20s. This is my country now. My family and I are happy to be a part of this blessed country,” he said.
Now that he is officially a Malaysian, Ismail plans to take a small loan to expand his business.
Lee said the ministry had cleared all of the 29,677 citizenship applications received between 2007 and 2009 and applicants had already been informed of the outcome.
He said a majority of the citizenship applications were by foreigners with 9,960 applications, followed by parents of their adopted children (8,015) and foreign wives of Malaysian men (3,012 applications).

> Harian Metro frontpaged a report about a man known as Razman who was allegedly suffering from his “gangster” wife’s outbursts.
Razman alleged how his wife, whom he married out of love, has woken him up by kicking him and demanded for divorce more than 10 times whenever they fought over his delay in replying her calls and SMSes.
He claimed his wife, who had also damaged his office personal computer during one of her outbursts, also verbally abused him by calling him either a pig, stupid, obnoxious and “to go to hell or die.”
He claimed his mother-in-law had accused him of stealing his wife’s stuff for witchcraft to make her submissive.
He said when they went for marriage counselling, she had vented her anger and scolded the ustaz.
After their child was born, he said his wife continued to sideline him and demanded the money they used for their wedding, which she regarded as debts that he had yet to repay.

A man was saved when firemen and security personnel managed to stop him from leaping off the 14th floor of an uncompleted shopping and hotel complex
Man rescued from leaping off 14th floor
MIRI: A middle-aged man was saved when firemen and security personnel managed to stop him from leaping off the 14th floor of an uncompleted shopping and hotel complex here.
The drama unfolded about 11am yesterday when passers-by saw a man climbing up the scaffolding of the hotel tower adjoining the three-storey shopping complex by the busy Miri-Lutong highway.
The situation became tense when the man reached the 14th floor and then stood precariously on the edge of the scaffolding, preparing to jump onto the streets below.
Alerted by the crowd, security personnel called the police and the fire department.
Several firemen climbed the scaffolding and managed to reach the man.
Some workers were seen trying to talk to him to get his attention.
The firemen closed in quietly and managed to grab him from below and from inside the building, before the man realised that he was being ambushed.
Shouts were heard as the man struggled with his rescuers. He was then bundled into the safety of the building.
The man, still struggling and cursing, was then handcuffed and led out of the building into a patrol car by two policemen.
Police later interrogated him. Apparently, the suicide attempt was related to a personal problem between the man and his family.
Police are expected to produce him in court today for a remand order pending further investigations.
