Plane grounded - by rat in cabin

Alaska Airlines was forced to delay a flight about to leave Seattle-Tacoma International Airport when a rat was seen scurrying in the cabin.

The airline said the flight from Seattle to Denver had just pulled away from the gate on Friday when the little stowaway was spotted.

The 737 jetliner returned to the terminal and passengers and crew boarded another plane about 90 minutes later.

Airline spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said the plane will not be returned to service until maintenance workers have ensured the rat did not damage equipment or chew any wires - and an exterminator certifies the plane is rodent-free.

Egan said workers were also trying to figure out how the rat got aboard.

She said "sometimes rodents can seek shelter in strange places" in cold weather.

Elizabeth Taylor being treated for heart problem - Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor has been admitted in hospital with congestive heart failure

Elizabeth Taylor being treated for heart problem

Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor has been admitted in hospital with congestive heart failure.

Her spokeswoman, Sally Morrison, said that the Oscar-winning actress was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles, California, in the US, within the past couple of days.

The 78-year-old is being treated for symptoms caused by congestive heart failure, a condition she disclosed she had back in November 2004.

Morrison said it is unknown how long she might be in the hospital. She added that Taylor's family appreciated the support from fans, but asked for privacy to allow the medical team space to do its work.

Taylor had been scheduled to attend a benefit gala in New York, where she was to receive an award alongside President Bill Clinton and designer Diane von Furstenberg, celebrating their dedication to AIDs research.

But she missed the event, so Elton John accepted the honour on her behalf and passed along a message from her: "I am there in spirit and I join you in saluting my fellow honourees and all these extraordinary leaders."

"I am inspired by their example, exhilarated by their vision, and encouraged by their compassion and love. And I love them in return."

Taylor, who has appeared in more than 50 films, won Oscars for her performances in Butterfield 8 (1960) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966).

But she has been just as famous for her marriages - all eight of them, including two to Richard Burton - and her lifelong battles with substance abuse, her weight and physical ailments, including numerous visits to the hospital for more than 20 major operations and countless treatments.

The actress had near-fatal bouts with pneumonia in 1961 and 1990, and another respiratory infection forced her to cancel all engagements for several weeks in late 1992. She had both hip joints replaced in 1994 and 1995.

Her 2004 diagnosis for congestive heart failure, compounded with spinal fractures and the effects of scoliosis, left her nearly bedridden.

She has also battled ulcers, amoebic dysentery, bursitis, and had a benign brain tumour removed in 1997. In recent years, she has had to use a wheelchair when out in public.

And the zoo has plenty to name with thousands of the super-sized bugs on exhibit in Madagascar! - an award-winning habitat for lemurs, crocodiles, and many other unique species.

Each gift comes with a colorful e-card sent to your loved one announcing that a cockroach has been named in his or her honour.

Woman bites off chunk of BF's ear

A jealous woman was jailed yesterday for biting off a chunk of her boyfriend's ear - which was then eaten by her dog.

Drunk June Thomson, 44, flew into a rage during a night out because a barmaid had bought Trevor Wainman a birthday drink.

When they got home, she sank her teeth into his left ear and tore a lump away.

The dog then ate the ear before anything could be done about it.

Jobless mum-of-five Thomson, of Hull, was jailed for 18 months after.

Horses electrocuted at race

Two horses died in the United Kingdom after apparently being electrocuted in a mysterious incident minutes before the start of a hurdle race.

Hundreds of spectators watched Fenix Two and Marching Song rear up and scream before ‘dropping like stones’ in the parade ring at Newbury racecourse in Berkshire.

It is thought they suffered electric shocks from underground cables that may have been punctured during recent drilling to aerate the ground.
