The King's Speech crowned Best Picture

The King's Speech has been crowned best picture at the Academy Awards ceremony.

The monarchy drama led as expected, with four Oscars and predictable favorites claiming acting honors.

Colin Firth starred as the stammering British ruler George VI in The King's Speech and earned the best-actor prize.

Natalie Portman won best actress as a delusional ballerina in Black Swan.

The boxing drama The Fighter claimed both supporting-acting honors, for Christian Bale as a boxer-turned-drug-abuser and Melissa Leo as a boxing clan's domineering matriarch.

The King's Speech also won the directing prize for Tom Hooper and the original-screenplay Oscar for David Seidler, a boyhood stutterer himself.

Model teacher kills kidnapped student

A teacher in China has been arrested for killing a 14-year-old student he kidnapped.

Hu Baoping, a 36-year-old language teacher of Jinhua Foreign Language School in Zhejiang, was reported to be in debt after losing big in the stock market.

He asked the Form One student, surnamed Chen, to go to a construction site near the school, where he killed him around 8pm on Thursday.

The next day, he sent a letter to the student’s mother, demanding a 200mil yuan (RM92.85mil) ransom.

A police report was lodged.

Police arrested the teacher the next day.

The victim's body was recovered at the murder site on Saturday.

Hu was a first-class teacher and had won the best new teacher, best young teacher and other awards.

Toilet-themed restaurants big in China

You can roll your eyeballs, but a number of restaurants with a toilet theme that have opened in China are reportedly attracting large queues of waiting customers.

One such establishment in Chongqing offers normal ice creams and soups with names like "haemorrhoids bloody excrement", "chef's special-constipation black excrement" and "diarrhoea", Rex Features reports.

The interior is decorated with toilets made into chairs and sinks made into tables, with food served in loo-shaped bowls or urinal-shaped mugs.

Teenager Wang Feiyu said: "The names are so scary. I really don't know which one to order."

She eventually opted for "Baby's green excrement" - actually ice-cream with green ice shavings, kiwi fruit and watermelon balls.
