AF9: Aznil Kembali Kerana Sejarah AF & Tanggungjawab

MURAI: Pada tahun lalu, Pak Nil menjadi pengkritik tetap AF8.

Kalau berbaloi menceduk pengalaman berharga apa salahnya.
Isu sempadan sangat subjektif.

Keputusan tamat program kerana Astro mahu teroka format baru

S'porean actress Foyce Le injured in accident

S'porean actress Foyce Le injured in accident

One minute she was in her friend's car, the next she was violently thrown forward and pieces of shattered glass were flying all over.

They cut the face, hands, neck and legs of Singaporean singer-actress Foyce Le.

Le, 31, was on her way to her newly-opened restaurant, Lush, with a friend when their car crashed head-on with another car.

The accident, which happened three weeks ago near Clarke Quay, left her shaken.

Said Le, who was in the passenger seat of the sports car driven by her friend, said: "It happened so fast that I was in total shock.

"The pain on my face was so acute I thought I was going to pass out."

She and the friend were on their way to the restaurant at Beach Road, which she co-owns, to discuss a business venture.

Her friend escaped unhurt. The two managed to stumble out of the wrecked car, which had its windscreen shattered, and take a taxi to Gleneagles Hospital, said Le.

According to her, the driver of the other car had cuts on his body, and his vehicle was also smashed.

At the hospital, Le said she discovered her injuries were more severe than she originally thought. Her right cheekbone was fractured, so she had to undergo surgery.

The operation lasted more than an hour. Le said she had to have a metal plate and screws inserted through incisions in her mouth and lower eyelids.

She suffered more than 30 cuts on her face, hands, neck and legs, she said.

Popular reality music TV programme Akademi Fantasia (AF) will air for the last time this year, after eight seasons

Akademi Fantasia bows out

By Steven Patrick

Previous AF contestants and winners with AF9 host Aznil Nawawi.

Popular reality music TV programme Akademi Fantasia (AF) will air for the last time this year, after eight seasons.

The programme began in 2002 and is still the top-rated TV program on the Astro malay channels.

The show has maintained a viewership above one million since it began and has helped paved the careers of singers like Vince, Mawi, Stacy, Mila and Adam.

Astro Ria channel manager Azlin Azmi said that although the viewership have been sustained over the years, the time has come to end the show.

“When AF began it was the only reality show. Today, there is an overload of reality shows. Every show has a specific audience," she said.

Aznil Nawawi, who was hosting the show for five seasons, will be returning to host the final season.

"It would be hard for us to revamp the show as it is franchised from Mexico," he said.

He said there is no shortage of talent in Malaysia.

“However, there are other channels for artistes to break into the industry, besides reality shows. There’s YouTube, for instance," he said.

"The audience from season one has already grown up. We also don’t think kids today will find it cool to watch a program that their parents watched nine years ago," he added.

There will be more music reality shows from Astro in the pipeline which will be announced later, said Azlin.

Over 4,000 hopefuls auditioned last month for AF9. AF9 will air from April 2 to June 11.

Robbery victim in nightgown makes daring escape
By EMBUN MAJID

ALOR SETAR: Wearing only her nightdress, a woman outwitted a gun-toting robber and escaped by jumping on a schoolbus and telling the lady driver to drive away fast.

The robber even fired shots at insurance company sales manager Low Sew Kiow, but missed. He fled the scene when the neighourhood awoke to the gunshots.

Daring escape: Low Sew Kiow, 45, talking to Kota Setar District CID chief DSP Zamani Shahrudin after she had outwitted a gun-toting robber and escaped in a schoolbus driven by Rosimah Darus, 57, (right). The gunman opened fire on the bus but Rosmah sped off with the screaming Low, who was only in her nightdress. As the neighbours woke to the sound of the gunshots, the robber fled. – G.C. TAN / The Star

Low’s early morning drama began when the masked robber broke into her house at 5.50am.

She was asleep with two of her children in her bedroom at her Taman Sinaran home here.

Low was awakened by the robber who entered her room with one of her daughters and maid.

She said the robber had entered the house through the front door that had been open.

Low, 45, said the robber ransacked the bedroom but was unhappy with the loot of several handphones, a digital camera and more than RM5,000.

Low said he wanted more money and she suggested that they go to the bank.

Low said the robber locked her daughters, aged 16 and 20, and a son aged 11 and their maid in the master bedroom before leaving the house with her. Another son, aged 22, was asleep in another room.

She said that once she stepped outside the house she immediately ran to the road and yelled for help.

She then stopped the schoolbus and told the driver Rosimah Darus, 57, to drive away fast.

Rosimah said the robber pointed a pistol towards her schoolbus after the screaming Low had stopped her vehicle.

She said she was shocked to see the shivering woman that she nearly forgot to drive her schoolbus after the man fired at her vehicle. She drove off for about 100m before Low asked her to stop.

Kota Setar district OCPD Assistant Comm Adzaman Jan said police did not rule out the possibility that the robber had an accomplice who was waiting for him outside the house.

Robber steals kiss from maid

KUALA LUMPUR: An armed intruder sealed a hold-up in Cheras with a stolen kiss.

The man, who was armed with a knife, had tied up a maid after entering the two-storey terrace house in Jalan Budiman about 8.30am yesterday.

He then scooped up an assortment of valuables worth about RM6,000.

However, before fleeing, he turned amorous and began to grope and kiss the 23-year-old maid.

The maid later freed herself and lodged a police report.

Cheras police chief Asst Comm Mohan Singh Tara Singh said the incident had occurred right after the maid’s employer left for work.

He said the woman was doing household chores when the intruder, believed to be in his 20s, entered through the front door and threatened her with a knife.

“The man also took away five handphones, a camera and RM200 cash,” said Mohan Singh.

Meanwhile, in Gombak, a trailer driver was found unconscious after being stabbed twice in the abdomen during a robbery.

Lee Kuan Hee, 47, was on his way to the city when his vehicle, laden with scrap metal worth RM200,000, was stopped at 29.5km of the Karak highway.

He was found on Sunday at about 1.30am by a passer-by but his vehicle was missing.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the trailer was found at about 5pm on the same day beside the road near AU3, Taman Keramat, with the scrap metal missing.

Lee was in stable condition at the Selayang hospital after undergoing surgery.

Muhamad Shahfaly Anoar, 15, expressed his wish to state education director Mansor Lat when the latter visited him at his house in Simpang Empat yesterday.

Concerned sibling: Four-year-old Mohd Alif Irfan checking his brother Muhamad Shahfaly’s fractured arm at their home in Simpang Empat, Perlis yesterday.
