Doctors diagnosed the toddler from West Midlands as Britain's youngest booze sufferer.

According to The Sun, the un-named toddler is thought to have been given alcohol repeatedly for six months and had suffered withdrawal symptoms of shakes and wild mood swings.

The youngster was among 13 children under 12 diagnosed alcoholic by the Heart of England NHS Trust between 2008 and 2010.

Last month, a girl of eight from Dundee was identified as the youngest alcoholic then.

She had started raiding her parents' drinks and then developed "a serious problem", getting "steaming drunk" four or five times a week.

In the area where the three-year-old lives, a total of 106 children aged between 13 and16 were treated for alcohol addiction.

Teen tricked into marrying grandpa tapper

A TEENAGER’S dream of marrying a good-looking young man was shattered when her groom was not the 30-year-old bank officer she had fantasised about, but a 63-year-old rubber tapper, reported Harian Metro.

The 18-year-old girl, who works at a supermarket in Kulim, said she got to know the elderly man last October after he purportedly dialled her number by mistake.

The calls became more frequent and the man went to the extent of topping up the girl’s phone credit and putting money into her younger sister’s bank account for shopping and other needs.

The teenager, who only gave her name as Lis, said the man claimed he was a 30-year-old bank officer and still single.

“After several weeks we agreed to get married in Thailand,” said Lis.

It was then she found out that the groom was not the one she imagined to be, but a grandfather who had been married four times before with children aged seven months to 30 years!

Lis said she declined to have the marriage consummated and asked to be separated after four days.

On returning to Kulim, she lodged reports against the man at the police station and the religious department.

Good Samaritans at crash scene turn out to be robbers - Two men pretended to come to the aid of a woman whose car had crashed but grabbed her handbag

Good Samaritans at crash scene turn out to be robbers

SUBANG JAYA: Two men pretended to come to the aid of a woman whose car had crashed but grabbed her handbag instead.

However, thanks to the victim’s good memory and quick action from the police, one was caught a few hours later – after a high-speed, 10km car chase.

The woman, a business executive in her 40’s, had been involved in an accident at Putra Heights at around 4.30pm on Sunday and was approached by the two men.

While pretending to help the woman out of the car, one of them quickly snatched her handbag and they fled in another car.

The victim, however, was able to remember specific details about the incident including the number plate of the getaway car.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar said police in a patrol car spotted a vehicle matching the description given by the victim at Putra Heights at about 3.45pm yesterday.

“Upon seeing the police, the driver quickly sped away forcing us to give chase,” he said.

The 10km chase involving several patrol cars ended in Bt 14 Puchong and the only occupant in the car, a man in his 30’s, was arrested.

Police recovered several tools in the vehicle which they believe were used for breaking into cars and houses.

“The car the man was driving was reported stolen earlier this month in Seri Kembangan,” ACP Zainal Rashid said, adding that police were still on the lookout for the second suspect.

Third explosion rocks nuclear plant - A third explosion in four days rocked the earthquake-damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in northeast Japan

Third explosion rocks nuclear plant

Quake magnitude upgraded to 9.0, fourth largest since 1900

SOMA (Japan): A third explosion in four days rocked the earthquake-damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in northeast Japan early Tuesday, the country's nuclear safety agency said.

The blast at Dai-ichi Unit 2 followed two hydrogen explosions at the plant - the latest on Monday - as authorities struggle to prevent the catastrophic release of radiation in the area devastated by a tsunami.

The troubles at the Dai-ichi complex began when Friday's massive quake and tsunami in Japan's northeast knocked out power, crippling cooling systems needed to keep nuclear fuel from melting down.

The latest explosion was heard at 6.10am local time, a spokesman for the Nuclear Safety Agency said at a news conference. The plant's owner, Tokyo Electric Power Co, said the explosion occurred near the suppression pool in the reactor's containment vessel. The pool was later found to have a defect.

International scientists have said there are serious dangers but not at the level of the 1986 blast in Chernobyl. Japanese authorities were injecting seawater as a coolant of last resort, and advising nearby residents to stay inside to avoid contamination.

Tokyo Electric Power said some employees of the power plant were temporarily evacuated following Tuesday morning's blast.

The accidents - injuring 15 workers and military personnel and exposing up to 190 people to elevated radiation - have compounded the immense challenges faced by the Tokyo government as it struggles to help hundreds of thousands of people affected by twin disasters that flattened entire communities and may have left more than 10,000 dead.

The crisis also has raised global concerns about the safety of such reactors at a time when they have enjoyed a resurgence as an alternative to fossil fuels.

Japanese authorities said there have been no large-scale radiation releases, but have detected temporary elevations in levels, and have evacuated tens of thousands of people from around affected reactors. Prevailing winds were pointing out to sea, and US ships assisting tsunami recovery moved further way to avoid potential danger.

Meanwhile, The US Geological Survey has upgraded the magnitude of Friday's deadly earthquake in Japan to 9.0

The move came after Japan's Meteorological Agency did the same. It's not unusual for scientists to tweak the magnitude of a giant quake after some number-crunching.

US government scientists originally put the Japan quake at 8.9. The change to 9.0 means that the quake was about 1.5 times stronger than initially thought.

The Japan quake is now the fourth largest in the world since 1900 behind the 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatra quake. - AP
