POH: In a tragic sequence of events, an injured bus crash victim who was helping other passengers was himself killed when a container lorry smashed into the stalled vehicle.

Sahad @ Shariff Md Din was earlier travelling with his family and other passengers when the bus they were in crashed into a lorry.

The 74-year-old who was helping the injured victims was flung into a ravine and killed when the stalled bus got hit a second time at KM341.9 of the North-South Expressway near Bidor by a container lorry.

Mangled wreckage: An expressway staff and a tow truck worker checking the damage on the bus near Bidor Sunday.

His daughter, Hasni Sahad, 47, said: “I was looking for my children when a container lorry crashed into the rear of the bus.

“I shouted out to my father to get away from the wreck but when I turned around, he was nowhere to be seen. One moment he was helping others to get off the bus and in the next, he was gone,” she said.

Hasni, a telephone operator with The Star in Penang, was travelling with her parents, sister, two children and some friends from the island to Nilai yesterday.

“It was supposed to be a fun trip. Instead, we had to watch father die.”

Words of comfort: A policeman keeping a victim company as firemen fight to free her from under the wreckage of the express bus at KM341.9 of the North-South Expressway Sunday.

Hasni said the bus was badly damaged. “I was thrown to the floor while my parents were hit by luggage from the overhead compartment,” she related.

Hasni said passengers were trying to get to safety when the container lorry, which was transporting paper reels, rammed into the bus.

Tapah OCPD Superintendent Roslan Bek Ahmad said it took Fire and Rescue Department personnel over an hour to free three victims trapped in the mangled wreck.

“Six passengers who suffered serious injuries have been taken to hospitals in Tapah, Teluk Intan and Ipoh while two others who sustained slight injuries received outpatient treatment at the Tapah Hospital.”

SHAH ALAM: A 10-year-old boy was electrocuted when he accidentally fell and touched an exposed high-voltage wire on a lamp post at a playground near his house.

Mohd Naqiuddin Marzuki (pic) was on his way home from the playground on Saturday after a football game with his friends when the incident occurred at about 6pm.

The victim’s father, Mohd Marzuki Muda, 44, who was at home at the time of the incident, said he rushed to the scene after being informed about the accident.

He said his son was motionless with his leg still in contact with the lamp post.

Mohd Marzuki, however, managed to pull his son away from the lamp post using a wooden stick, before rushing him off to the KPJ Selangor hospital where Mohd Naqiuddin was pronounced dead.

“I managed to pull him away from the lamp post but after an hour at KPJ (Selangor hospital), the doctors told me that my son was dead,” he told reporters yesterday.

Yesterday, Mohd Naqiuddin’s body was taken to the University Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem before burial in Jerteh, Terengganu.

Meanwhile, resident Razali Abdullah, 52, claimed that it was the second such incident in the area, adding that a child was almost electrocuted about two years ago.

Despite the numerous complaint letters sent to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council, he claimed no action had been taken.

“We are all saddened by the incident and we hope that MBSJ will take appropriate measures after this,” he said.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar confirmed the case.

Police have classified the case as sudden death.

Two found alive - 9 days after quake

Police rescued 2 people from under debris in Ishinomaki City, Japan on Sunday, 9 days after the initial earthquake and tsunami on March 11th.

Police in Miyagi Prefecture say the 2 are a woman who is about 80 years old and her 16-year-old grandson.

Rescue workers say the boy has a low body temperature, but is conscious.

An NHK video shows two people being pulled up by rope to a police helicopter that headed for a Red Cross hospital in Ishinomaki City.

The 2 were found in an area about one kilometer upstream of the mouth of a river. Houses in the area were swept away by the tsunami.

Miyagi was one of the areas worst hit during the twin disasters on March 11, with a confirmed death toll of 4,882.

'Noah's Ark' now open for booking

'Noah's Ark' now open for booking

Many people fear that the world is coming to an end following the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear catastrophe in Japan.

Amidst the panic around the world, a new 'Noah's Ark' has been secretly built in Tibet, according to media reports in China.

An article, titled "Tickets of Tibet Noah's Ark are being sold", was posted on Sina's weibo recently.

According to the person reportedly in charge, people should start selling their properties and collect enough money for the ticket by next year.

"Noah's Ark is now open for booking ," he said.

He claimed that the Chinese government was also building its own 'Noah's Ark,' but it was only meant for the VIPs and outstanding figures.

According to the article, a ticket to the vessel would cost 1bil yuan (RM464mil).

"Ours is for the laymen and each ticket costs only 1mil yuan (RM464,100)," he told reporters in a phone interview.

He also claimed that the Noah's Ark would start its maiden sail by April or May next year.

Some netizens, however, clarified the rumours, saying they have seen the same article on other sites since July, last year.

Social Science expert in Shanghai, Prof Zhang Jiehai, condemned the article as "ridiculously irresponsible and baseless."

He believed that more such rumours would surface soon.

Arrow removed from impaled goose - The saga of a Canada Goose that was shot with an arrow has apparently come to a happy end

Arrow removed from impaled goose

The saga of a Canada Goose that was shot with an arrow has apparently come to a happy end.

After leading would-be rescuers on a wild goose chase for five-and-a-half weeks, the goose, which was first spotted at Washington Park in the US on February 12, was captured by an animal rescue group volunteer.

"We knew where she was for several weeks, but it was hard to catch her with all the people around," says Gabriele Braunschweiger, who volunteers with the Wildbird Rehabilitation Centre in Denver, Colorado.

"Everyone tried to catch her and that made her skittish."

But Thursday morning was the lucky day for the group and the goose.

"We were able to sneak up on her and get her in her carrier," Braunschweiger says.

Gabriele and fellow volunteer Elizabeth Tegowski took the goose to Homestead Animal Hospital in Centennial, Colorado, where Dr. Jerry LeBonde checked out the goose, who now had been named "Quilly" by the rescuers.

"She is one lucky goose," Dr. LeBonde says. "The arrow went through a fleshy area of muscle near the shoulder and came out the other side, but it was close to the heart, only a fingerwidth."

The doctor says the surgery went well. Quilly only needed a mild anesthetic and some antibiotics. With some food and lots of rest, the doctor thinks Quilly will be ready to be released.

"I'd say that she's ready to be released in a day." LaBonde says. "But just to be safe, the volunteers are going to watch over her for a few more days before releasing her."

TV host spends RM92,820 for 'copy cat' surgery

A Chinese TV host has spent 200,000 yuan (RM92,820) to make herself to look exactly like actress Li Xiaolu.

You Jia underwent 14 surgeries on her face, cheeks, chin, nose and other places in a five hours operation in Harbin, China.

She blogged about the process online, revealing of her feelings and recovery progression.

The 23-year-old also updated her new photo from time to time, allowing the public to witness her changes.

"I have always admire Li, and many people also said I look like her.

"So, with my family's consent, I went for the surgeries to look exactly like her," said You Jia, a part-time TV host.

She said she posted her experience online to share with the other women, who have the same dream.

You Jia started blogging two hours after her surgery, saying it was very successful.

In the subsequent days, she wrote: "I'm better now.", "Really wish to take off the bandages to see if I have turned into Li Xiaolu." and "I feel like I've becoming Li Xiaolu."

She stopped when she fully recovered about three weeks later.

Harbin TV's matchmaking programme Fei Chang Nan Nv producer Yi Tewei said You Jia's operation fee was paid by him and the crew.

Yi said they just wanted to help the host fulfill her dream.
