A 17-YEAR-OLD learner driver daughter in the United Kingdom accidentally reversed a car into her mother, eventually killing her.

Sky News reported Sue Duke, 41, was helping her daughter Lauren back into a parking space of the social club where she worked. The mother was crushed against another vehicle.

One witness, who declined to be named, told Kent Online: 'At first we didn't realise Sue had been hit, we just saw the damage to the car. But then we saw Sue lying on the ground.'

'She had been hit on the head, there was blood everywhere. It was catastrophic. We just tried to help her and comfort her before an ambulance got there.'

'The girl was hysterical, she was screaming and crying. It was so awful. We tried to calm her down but she was so upset.' She suffered serious head injuries after being hit by the Ford Ka.

The mother of three was airlifted to a London hospital where she died with her family around her. -- THE STAR/ANN

Monitor lizard crawls into house and injures baby

HEARING a scraping sound while putting up the curtains in the living room, a Malaysian housewife was stunned to see that a monitor lizard had wandered into her house in Pendang, Kedah on Tuesday.

The reptile quickly moved to the adjoining bedroom and crawled up to where her two-month-old baby was sleeping, Sinar Harian reported.

'I quickly rushed to the bed to pick up my child and panicked when I saw traces of blood on the little girl's head,' said Nor Faizah Aziz, 27.

Her daughter was later treated for scratches and light injuries to her head.

Her family called the local Civil Defence Corps to catch the 5kg reptile. A civil defence official said it took them five minutes to trap the scaly intruder which vomited out a kitten before it was caught.

He said the lizard would be handed over to the wildlife department, adding that it was a rare case since the corps had mainly dealt with snakes slithering into homes previously. -- THE STAR/ANN
