Mr. Bean crashes his supercar

British media say actor Rowan Atkinson, famed for his Mr. Bean television shows and films, is recovering in hospital after crashing his supercar in London.

The 56-year-old comedian, also known for the "Blackadder" historical comedy shows, was expected to be discharged on Friday after treatment for a shoulder injury, the Daily Mirror reported.

Atkinson's spokesman could not immediately be reached.

Police and firefighters both said that a vehicle crashed late Thursday close to Haddon, a village about 85 miles (137km) north of London.

The car struck a tree, a lamppost and caught fire, authorities said. Firefighters said the driver was not trapped and he was taken to hospital.

Atkinson was driving his McLaren F1 supercar — one of the world's fastest road cars, the newspaper said.

Man buys car with 300kg of coins

A businessman wants to buy a car with coins in China.

The flour trader, surnamed Wang, arrived in his van at a car shop in Xianyang city of Shaanxi province on Aug 1.

He opened the boot and carried down seven sacks of coins - with various face values - to pass it to the dealer.

"I want to buy a car. I have 60,000 yuan (RM27,756) cash," he said, adding the coins weighed some 300kg.

Wang said he collected around 10,000 yuan (RM4,626) of coins each month from his clients that include bread shop owners and noodle manufacturers.

The car dealer had trouble finding a bank to receive the unusual payment, as counting it was not easy.

Finally, he found one bank that agreed to receive just 15,000 yuan (RM6,940) of the coins.

Meanwhile, Wang is still waiting for other banks to help him deposit the money into the dealer's account.

He cannot drive away the car he wants to buy until all his coins are received and counted by the banks.

20-40 years for woman who hid baby remains

A US woman who said she secretly gave birth in her bathtub five times, killed one of the babies and hid all five bodies in a closet pleaded guilty to murder Thursday and was sentenced to the maximum 20 to 40 years in prison.

Michele Kalina, 46, of Pennsylvania, conceived the babies through a long affair with a co-worker and hid the pregnancies from him and her husband. She told a psychiatrist she had wrapped each baby with a towel and then stored the body in a tub or container in a locked closet.

She thought four were 'essentially stillborn' and denied doing anything 'malicious', testified Dr Jerome Gottlieb, a defence psychiatrist. But over the course of several visits with him, she recalled that the third baby, a boy, had moved. That death is the basis for the one count of murder.

"She (said she) might have wrapped the baby too tightly with a towel so that the baby couldn't breathe," Dr Gottlieb said. That boy's body was then encased in cement and stored with the others - in a cooler, tub or cardboard box - in a closet. The five bodies decomposed for years until her teenage daughter found the skeletal remains last year. By then, authorities could not determine how the babies had died.

Kalina, a home-health aide, also pleaded guilty to five counts each of abuse of a corpse and concealing a child's death. Dr Gottlieb described her as an alcoholic who was intoxicated during the births and does not fully recall what took place. She also suffers from severe depression and other mental-health issues, he said.

Public defender Holly Feeney sought leniency on grounds that Kalina had learned to deny reality as she endured severe physical and sexual abuse as a child. Gottlieb suggested she put memories of the babies in a 'psychological closet', much as she put their remains in a physical one. Berks County Judge Linda K M Ludgate didn't buy the argument. She said Kalina had left the newborns in tubs and containers 'like garbage', and rebuked her for not getting help, at least after the first delivery.

China troubled by chopstick pickpockets

It seems pickpocketing has become more sophisticated and bold in China.

The Chinese pickpockets are snatching valuables with chopsticks or long tweezers, the Huffington Post reported.

Earlier, Shanghaiist and MSNBC posted video clips showing thieves snatching valuables such as wallet and cell phones out of their unwitting victims’ pockets with eating utensils in China.

The snatchers approach from the behind and use long chopsticks to grab valuables while the victims shop around or walk blankly.

Bahan:

1 kilo udang
3 biji bawang besar
5 ulas bawang putih
2 batang cili merah
1 mangkuk kecil mentega
1 batang serai
Sos cili (secukup rasa)

Cara penyediaan:

1. Cairkan mentega dalam kuali.
2. Masukkan bawang besar dan bawang putih, dan tumis.
3. Masukkan cili besar yang telah dihiris.
4. Masukkan serai yang telah dihiris.
5. Biarkan masak selama 5 – 8 minit
6. Masukkan udang.
7. Masukkan sedikit sos cili.

4 potong sederhana besar ikan merah

1 inci halia
5 biji cili padi

Broccoli
Serbuk perasa

Cara penyediaan:

1. Panaskan minyak dan tumis bawang putih, bawang merah dan halia.
2. Tumis sampai naik bau kemudian masukkan cili padi, air dan serbuk perasa.
3. Kemudian masukkan lobak merah dan ubi kentang.
4. Bila air mendidih, masukkan ikan merah.
5. Bila ikan sudah masak dan sayur sudah empuk, masukkan broccoli.
6. Masak selama 3 minit.
7. Tutup api dan hidang.
8. Potong daun sup dan dan bawang goreng sebagai hiasan.

BCCK Ramadan buffet is back

KUCHING: Diners to this year’s Ramadan Buffet at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) will be treated to a bigger and better buffet than ever before.

Starting from August 5 to 26, 2011, the BCCK Ramadan Buffet will be held in The Great Hall which has been transformed into a tranquil setting which can accommodate up to 1,000 diners a night.

“Regrettably, last year BCCK had to turn away many potential diners as we could only accommodate a maximum of 400 diners a night. After reviewing the feedback from last year’s patrons, we have improved on our seating capacity to ensure that all diners are able to celebrate this blessed month with their family and friends,” said the chief executive officer of BCCK, Paul D’Arcy.

BCCK’s signature offerings like Whole Roast Lamb, Shawarma, Bubur Pedas, Bubur Lambuk, Cucur Udang and many more will be available daily. Buffet favourites Poached Banana Prawns on Ice, Poached Mussels on Ice, Poached Snapper Fillet on Ice, Smoked Tenggiri, Assorted Cold Cuts, Assorted Mini Tapas, Assorted Kerabu and Sambal are also available daily.

This year’s Ramadan Buffet menu will rotate on a weekly basis, said D’Arcy. The new approach was derived from customer feedback which had suggested for the same menu to remain for a week so that they can bring their family and friends to savour what they had enjoyed, he said.

To ensure ease of access and shorter queues, BCCK’s Ramadan Buffet spread and live action stalls will be duplicated.

All delicacies at BCCK’s Ramadan Buffet are certified halal by JAIS (Department of Islamic Affairs of Sarawak). As an added attraction for all diners, there will also be a Raya Bazaar selling Raya goodies from August 5 to 26, 2011.

BCCK’s Ramadhan Buffet can be enjoyed at just RM65 nett for adults and RM25 nett for children age five to 12. Prior reservations are required and vouchers are on sale now.

Two-yr-old boy drives BMW

Police have launched a manhunt for a father, who allowed his two-year-old son to drive a car in Hong Kong.

They have also urged the public to provide them with details of the man.

The probe began after a video clip of the dangerous stunt was uploaded on YouTube recently.

Although the clip was removed soon after, some netizens had reposted the clip in other websites.

From the clip, the child is seen sitting on his father’s lap on the driver's seat in a moving BMW car.

The father is seen letting his son control the steering wheel while his wife is filming the stunt from the back seat.

Judging from the parents' reactions, they were proud of their child, whom netizens have named Initial B(aby), after popular car racing animation movie Initial D.

Netizens also described the parents as "brainless" for ignoring the safety of the child as well as other road users.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists Hong Kong, the father could be charged for dangerous driving.
