NIBONG TEBAL: A 37-year-old businessman survived despite being shot thrice by a gunman who ambushed him in Bukit Tambun here.
The man from Parit Buntar, Perak, was walking to his car after dinner with a friend when they heard gunshots. Both of them panicked and ran to hide behind their car.
It was only after the gunman fled that the businessman realised that he had been shot, once on the thigh and twice on the arm, said OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat.
“His friend then rushed him to the Seberang Jaya Hospital where he underwent immediate surgery to remove the slugs after the 11.30pm incident on Monday. His condition is stable.
“Two spent bullet casings were found at the scene and we have not ruled the possibility that the gunman could be a hitman,” said Supt Shafien when contacted yesterday.
In an unrelated incident, an 11-year-old boy was hit on the arm by an unidentified object while travelling in a car with his parents along Jalan Permatang Nibong, Bukit Mertajam,
OCPD Asst Comm Azman Abd Lah said the family was on their way to Kubang Semang when the incident occurred at 11.45pm on Monday.
“The boy, who was sitting at the back, suddenly cried out in pain. His father, age 44, immediately stopped the car and saw his son bleeding from the arm.
“There was a hole on the rear left window. We are unable to confirm if the car was hit by a bullet or something else,” he said, adding that a police report had since been lodged.
