Teacher falls to his death after turning 21
GEORGE TOWN: A tuition teacher who celebrated his 21st birthday several days ago fell to his death from a five-storey building in Perak Road here.
Lim Chee Hwa of Johor Baru was found sprawled in a pool of blood in the 9.50pm incident on Sunday.
He had just conducted a lesson at a tuition centre located at the building before his death.
It was learnt that prior to the incident, several colleagues and firemen had rushed to the top of the building to persuade Lim to come down.
His brother Chee Chin, 26, said Chee Hwa had just celebrated his birthday on Dec 29.
He said his brother became a tuition teacher after completing his SPM examination.
“Although Chee Hwa could have continued to study at a university, he decided to teach at the centre instead.
“He joined the centre in Johor three years ago before coming here a year ago.
“He spoke to me about four days ago, saying that he wanted to return to Johor, but could not as the bus tickets were sold out,” said Chee Chin.
Chee Chin said his brother never told his family about his personal problems.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the case has been classified as sudden death.
Chee Hwa’s colleagues and students cried uncontrollably at the scene and refused to accept that he had died.
The body was later sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
