Seventh Harry Potter film breaks franchise record
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part I is the highest grossing film in the franchise.
The seventh movie featuring the adventures of the boy wizard has overtaken the first film in the series 2001's Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone to take over $US657mil (RM1,997mil) outside of North America.
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said in a statement: "It's tremendously gratifying to reach this benchmark as we enter the final stretch of this remarkable journey. We share this achievement with Jo Rowling, whose books are the foundation of this rich and vibrant world, as well as the talented people who brought her vision to life on the screen."
Warner Bros. representative Veronika Kwan-Rubinek added: "These numbers speak to the phenomenal and enduring strength of this property, which has captivated audiences across all borders, regardless of age or culture."
The success of the franchise has made stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint - who play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively - among Britain's richest young celebrities.
Last year Daniel was estimated to have made $US73mil (RM221.9) from 'Harry Potter' with Emma making $US33mil (RM100.3) and Rupert raking in $US30mil (RM91.2mil).
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part II - the final movie in the series - is due for release on July 15.
