Malaysia's next top model

Malaysia now has a new supermodel - Dayang Nur Atikah.


Dayang Nur Atikah walks on the runway after being crowned winner of the prestigious Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search Malaysia 2011.

Better known as Atikah, the 18 year old was crowned recently as the winner of the prestigious Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search Malaysia 2011 held at the Sepang International Circuit.

Hailing from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Atikah who is of Bajau and Brunei parentage was lost for words when her name was called.

“I am truly excited and shocked. The other girls in the competition are all so talented that I never thought I would win,” she tells The Star.

Atikah who is currently awaiting her SPM results is the third of four siblings.

She credits her parents for giving her the support and guidance that have brought her this far in the competition.

“I am very grateful and thankful to my parents who have shown me the support and guidance since the start of this competition. It is their support that has gotten me here today,” she says, adding that it has been a very challenging time during the course of the competition and to be separated from her parents for almost a month.

The 12 finalists were required to stay at the official Ford Models residence over the past one month.

The leggy lass named supermodel Chanel Iman as her idol, citing Iman’s personality and catwalk is her best inspiration in the modeling industry.

Atikah will now represent Malaysia at the Ford Models Supermodel of the World international finals in New York in August, which also marks the 30th anniversary of the renowned event.

As Malaysia's new Ford Models Supermodel, Atikah took home the limited edition Heidi Klum 4-leave clover pendant from Mouawad, valued at RM100,000 and a modelling contract worth RM100,000 from international fashion brand F&F.

The final judging saw a panel of judges consisting STYLO International President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Nancy Yeoh, Ford Models Licensee for Asia Pacific Calvin Cheng, and
National Director of Ford Models Supermodel of the World Singapore 2011 and former Miss Singapore Colleen Pereira.

The competition also named Gabrielle Boudville, 20, from Kuala Lumpur as first runner-up, and Karen Lugun, 18, of Kelabit and Punjabi parentage as second runner-up. Lugun is from Kuching,
Sarawak.

Boudville who is of Portuguese, French and Chinese heritage says she can now focus on professional modeling.

“I am overly excited and this is my stepping stone into the modeling arena,” she enthuses.

“This is my first step into the fashion industry and this competition has definitely taught me a lot about this pathway. The experience that I’ve gained thus far is priceless,” says Lugun.

The 12 finalists were Dayang Nur Atikah, 18, Lee Tee Hooi, 21, Raja Alicia, 16, Renee Tan, 20, Gabrielle Ashley, 20, Jenilyn Lim, 21, Melissa Wong, 23, Loh Tze Shian, 18, Karen Lugun, 18, Casandra Azman, 18, Zana Chin, 22, and Phoebe How, 23.

The girls consist of an eclectic mixed background, which include Bajau, Malay, French, Portugese, Chinese, Kelabit, English, and Punjabi.

They have undergone various intensive training at the STYLO Academy where a customised course on Personality Enhancement and Finishing School Curriculum was taught to prepare them for the August finals in New York.

They have also sashayed the runway at STYLO Fashion Grand Prix KL 2011, presented by Mercedes-Benz with Visa as official card.

“We took a gamble by investing so much time and effort into the competition and definitely it was all worth it,” said Yeoh.

Son hacks mum to death

A son in the United Kingdom hacked his mum to death with a machette.

She lost several fingertips and her hands were almost severed, reported The Sun.

The killer’s son, Usman Shahzad, 21, saw his mother's recent marriage to a Pakastani man as a threat to his inheritance.

He also used a knife and a shower rail to inflict 70 wounds on mum Assia, 40.

Her lodgers, who heard screams almost drowned out by loud rap music, alerted police

Officers broke down the door to find Shahzad standing on his butchered mother's neck.

Judge Christopher Tyrer said he must serve a minimum 20 years for the "abhorrent, ruthless and cold-blooded murder".

Shahzad, who pleaded guilty, showed no emotion as he was led away to the cells.

Court allows boy to turn into girl

An Australian court has allowed a 10-year-old boy to become the youngest Australian to have sex-change therapy.

The boy, known as Jamie, has lived as a girl for two years, dressing in feminine clothes, using the girls' toilet at school and "presenting as a very attractive young girl with long, blonde hair", the court heard.

Jamie's parents, medicos and psychiatrists feared early-onset puberty could lead to self-harm or suicide and supported an urgent application for the child to receive sex-change therapy.

Family Court Justice Linda Dessau ordered that Jamie be allowed to start drug therapy to stop male puberty and that the court reconvene when she turned 16 to consider approving the second stage of taking female hormones to feminise the body.

The court heard Jamie saw herself as a "freak" and a "girl in a boy's body", and had first identified as a girl when she was a toddler.

Her mother said though doctors had told her Jamie would be the youngest patient to start such treatment, she was confident it was in her best interests.

She said before her child changed schools in year 3 and acted as a girl, she told her, "Mummy, it is so hard trying to be a boy", and that she had to "go to school disguised as a boy".

The mother said the family had started treating Jamie as a female in 2008 after her non-identical twin brother accepted her condition and announced: "I have a sister."

The mother was concerned that without treatment, Jamie's voice would break and an Adam's apple and facial hair would grow.

"(If Jamie does not receive treatment) she will very shortly develop obvious male characteristics ... which will be permanent and ill not be able to be reversed," the mother said.

"At the moment Jamie can live comfortably as a girl, is socially confident and suffers no teasing or social isolation."

A medical expert said when he first saw Jamie in February 2009, she "looked convincingly female in every way" except her genitalia.

The doctor said he was concerned about Jamie's rapid-onset puberty, which was equivalent to that of a 14-year-old, and that sex-change treatment should start immediately.

Another doctor said stage one treatment to stop male puberty was reversible.

Thousands of Bieber fans go hysterical for this One Time chance of a lifetime

KUALA LUMPUR: With so many screaming fans in Malaysia, it's hard to see why Justin Bieber still sings about needing “somebody to love”.

The 17-year-old pop sensation performed in front of a sell-out 17,000-crowd at Stadium Merdeka last night, and to say he was given a warm reception would be an understatement.

His Beliebers (what Bieber fans fondly refer to themselves as) were screaming and chanting in the pouring rain for almost two hours.

They were in near hysteria when he finally appeared on stage in his trademark white and purple get-up.

The fans kept it up for nearly the entire show as Bieber performed songs like Somebody To Love, One Time and Never Say Never, saving his signature hit Baby for last.

As part of his usual routine, a girl from the audience was brought on stage to be serenaded by Bieber as he performed One Less Lonely Girl.

Bieber had performed to a sold-out show in Singapore on Tuesday night and will now travel for shows in Indonesia and Australia as part of his My World Tour concert series.

Earlier, at the KL International Airport, Beliebers Felicia Priyanka, 13, and Joanna Joseph, 14, could not contain their excitement as they waited for the teenage sensation to arrive.

The girls, with painted faces held up banners that read “Marry us! You're One In A Million!” and joined the crowd which erupted in screams when Bieber arrived yesterday.

However, the girls' excitement was dampened when they saw him emerge from the VIP Lounge with girlfriend Selena Gomez.

“Why is she here? It is his tour, not hers,” complained Felicia, adding that she was “extremely jealous” of the singer-actress.

Despite being irritated about the star bringing Gomez on tour, the girls were still overjoyed to catch a glimpse of the YouTube sensation before the concert.

The lovebirds were heavily guarded by security personnel, who formed a human barricade around them before they were whisked to a waiting car.

Bieber wrapped his arm around Gomez, who kept her face hidden from the media and screaming fans.

Tanpa seorang pun tahu, Zahira sebenarnya adalah anak Ihsan dan Utari. Sedangkan Amira adalah anak Prabu dan Aini. Wisnu yang dendam pada Prabu karena telah membuatnya cacat, menukarkan kedua bayi tersebut yang lahir bersamaan. Wisnu ingin memberi Prabu pelajaran, karena ia mengasuh anak dari musuh bubuyutannya, Ihsan, yang adalah cinta sejati istri keduanya, Aini. Wisnu pun yang pernah berjanji untuk menjodohkan anaknya dengan anak Ihsan dan Utari pun menitipkan anaknya ke Surti, pembantu di keluarga Prabu. Dan anaknya itu adalah Arman.

Kerumitan terjadi saat masing-masing keduanya dipertemukan, Amira dan Zahira. Amira pun bertemu secara tidak sengaja dengan Prabu dan Aini. Amira pun bertemu dan berkenalan dengan Zahira dan Arman, saat ia mengalami kecelakaan karena hampir ditabrak oleh pemuda kaya bernama Rizqi.

Amira semakin bingung ketika Prabu, Aini & Zahira datang ke pemakaman ayahnya, Ihsan. Amira yang sedang bersedih langsung shock ketika Prabu mengenalkan namanya, karena Amira mendengar bahwa Prabu lah yang menyebabkan ayahnya meninggal dunia.

Waktu pun terus bergulir, dan mereka semua seperi hidup dalam lingkaran yang tidak terputus. Akankah kebenaran akan terungkap?.. bagaimanakah reaksi Amira dan Zahira ketika tahu kebenarannya?..
