A TEACHER in a key university has contacted police after receiving threatening text messages from a student demanding higher grades, China Youth Daily reported on Monday.

On July 17, teacher Yang Hua, from Nanjing city, the capital of East China's Jiangsu province, received a message cursing her family to death for giving a student a low grade in surveying class.

At the same day, Ms Yang received a further three text messages demanding she enhance all scores between 65 and 75 to 90 or face retaliations. The message mentioned the teacher's son and said 'I will put you in pain'.

Ms Yang traced the identity of the student by tracking the phone number. The student named Li Ming had been given a low pass grade.

Ms Yang reported the case to the deputy dean of the college where Li Ming studies, but received a perfunctory reply. Worrying about the safety of her family members, Ms Yang finally reported the matter to police.

The student then sent a text message to apologise for his behaviour and expressed regret about what he did. Li said he just acted on impulse after feeling the grade was unfair. -- CHINA DAILY/ANN
