Daughter ill after news of dad’s death

SEREMBAN: The daughter of cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya’s driver has fallen ill upon hearing news of her father.

Noorfazilah Ab Sani said her daughter Balqis Dayana, 12, had been crying and not eaten anything since yesterday morning after learning that Kamaruddin Shamsuddin, 44, had died.

“She has developed a headache and fever,” said Noorfazilah, 33, who is divorced from Kamaruddin, adding that the girl was fond of her father.

“He had promised to fetch her to celebrate Hari Raya at his village near Kuantan.

“When her father was first reported missing, her thoughts were about his safety and she often asked what he would have for buka puasa,” she said.

She said Kamaruddin’s son Izran Akmal, nine, had at first insisted that it could not be his father who had gone missing but he had calmed down since.

Kamaruddin’s other son, Irfan Aiman, eight, lives in Kuantan with his aunt.

Noorfazilah married Kamaruddin when he was working at the King Studio recording outfit and she had just produced a dangdut album. The couple was close then with many singers, among them Nash or Nashrudin Elias, a former husband of Sosilawati.

In KUANTAN, Kamaruddin’s mother Zainab Ahmad said she hoped that the ashes found by the police in a farm near Tanjung Sepat, Selangor, were not those of her son.

However, Zainab, 73, said if DNA tests confirmed it, then she and her family would accept it as takdir (fate).

“We are still hoping for his return,” she said when met with Kamaruddin’s sister Ramlah, 49, nephew Khairul Izwan Ismail, 29, and brother-in-law Ismail Ibrahim, 59, at her home in Indera Mahkota 2.

Khairul Izwan said he was supposed to meet and spend the night at Kamaruddin’s house in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 30 but his uncle had told him he would be in Banting with Sosilawati.

Meanwhile, the family of financial adviser Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, said they would not accept his death until they received “black and white” confirmation.

Noorhisham’s father-in-law Radin Pangat Ishak, 66, said his daughter Suzana was depressed and had taken news of her husband’s disappearance hard.

“The family was supposed to celebrate Hari Raya in Muar,” he said.
