Beggar falls into drain – with RM4,600 in his pocket
A BEGGAR fell into a drain while sleeping by the roadside and – to the surprise of his rescuers – he had RM4,643 on him, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Rescuers found the money on him during the Christmas Day incident in Penang.
The 64-year-old man was saved by firemen and sent to a hospital. The money was in a plastic bag stuffed in his pocket.
The money was returned to the beggar when he was discharged.
A member of the public said the beggar had been around for the last three years.
“He always asks passers-by for money, saying that he needs to buy a bus ticket to go back to Taiping.”
The daily also reported about a website in Singapore that is giving tips to netizens on how to save time. The site – www.timesavers.sg – has listed 11 ways to reduce the time spent on daily chores.
Among them was a suggestion to buy seven shirts of the same pattern and colour – to save 35 minutes deciding on which shirt to wear for the day.
It also advised the people not to remove a tie knot so that it can be easily worn again and this will help save five minutes; have lunch with fewer people and driving behind an ambulance will save 45 minutes.
Stop bargaining to save 25 minutes and stop lining up in a long queue to save 45 minutes. And keep your head bald so you can save five minutes on combing.
> China Press reported that a “dog detective” team has been set up to help the public locate their missing canines.
The team, named ACC, was founded about a year ago, and is active in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
ACC’s spokesman Zhou Chen Yi said he used a beagle to help search for the missing canines.
“Beagles are born hunters,” he said.
