Dengue: Death toll rises to 132 after two more die
The cumulative figure for Chikungunya was 804 cases, a dramatic drop of 85 percent compared to the 5,233 cases for the same period last year.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of fatalities due to dengue rose to 132 following the death of two women during the period from Dec 5 to 11, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.
He said the first case involved a 41-year-old woman who worked as an administrative assistant at the Putrajaya Hospital, while the second case involved a 29-year-old housewife at the government hospital in Kuantan.
He said that six states that showed an increase in the number of cases compared to the previous week were Johor (nine cases), Kedah and Penang (four cases each), while Terengganu, Negri Sembilan and Labuan had one case each.
"The number of cumulative cases from January until Dec 11 is 44,641, which is an increase of 15 percent or 5,660 cases, compared with 38,981 cases reported during the same period last year," he said.
As for Chikungunya, for the period from Dec 5 to 11, one case was reported which was a reduction of five cases compared with six cases reported for the previous week.
