Misha Omar calls the role
Misha to play Dr M's wife in musical
Local singer Misha Omar will play a teenage Tun Siti Hasmah in the upcoming musical, Tun Mahathir.
The show, which will be staged in Istana Budaya from Jan 21 - 30 next year, follows the life and times of Malaysia’s fourth prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Misha will play his wife, who is currently the chancellor of a local university.
The singer, who starred as Datuk Rosnah Majid, a veteran journalist in the previous instalment of the same musical, calls the new offer "a dream come true."
"I feel like I’ve been promoted from a constable to an inspector," she says.
However, Misha admits she was quite daunted when she first landed the role.
"I didn’t think I was good enough to play Tun Dr Siti Hasmah. But I saw the role as an opportunity for me to learn, so I accepted the challenge."
"We also have less time to practice this time around," the Bunga-bunga cinta (Flowers of love) singer reveals.
"Though luckily, most of us work well under stress."
Misha adds that she hopes to meet Tun Siti Hasmah in person in order to understand the character better.
"I’m not too hopeful about it, though. I understand that Tun Siti Hasmah is very busy."
Tun Mahathir the musical was first staged in September 2010.
