Luhrman to remake The Great Gatsby in 3D
Leonardo DiCaprio will be filling in Robert Redford's shoes in Baz Luhrmann's remake of The Great Gatsby.
Here comes one of the most exciting news in the 2011 Hollywood film scene.
Baz Luhrmann, responsible for blockbuster hits like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, is set to do a 3D remake of The Great Gatsby in Sydney, Australia.
The location is selected over the obvious choice of New York, where the original story, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is set against.
For this ambitious remake, the auteur handpicked Leonardo DiCaprio, whom he worked with in Romeo + Juliet back in 1996, as well as British darling Carey Mulligan and DiCaprio’s bestie Tobey Maguire to be part of the cast.
DiCaprio’s and Mulligan’s roles were originally portrayed by Robert Redford and Mia Farrow in the original 1974 classic.
All eyes are now on Luhrmann, whose last film Australia, starring Australian stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, tanked at the box-office.
This latest take on the classic will also mark the first live-action 3D movie to be made in New South Wales, Australia.
Shooting will commence in August, with Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin recreating the 1920s' New York and Long Island in the city.
