Two rampaging dogs terrified a mother and two kids, when they forced their way into the family home and killed their pet.

The mother and children heard the yelps of their family pet being mauled by the dogs, reported The Daily Mail.

Mother-of-four Sam Thomas, 34, said she barricaded herself and two of her children in their lounge because the rampaging animals were threatening Harmony, 12, Vanessa, 9.

The attack in the United Kingdom left their nine-month-old Borzoi dog, Mika, dead and a police dog handler with a dislocated shoulder.

Sam said,"I knew that something was wrong was when the kids came running in from the garden to say two black dogs had got in."

"They became aggressive towards the children so I got the kids in through the back door. But the dogs followed them and forced their way through a door which I was trying to close," she said.

"Mika was in a cage in the hallway and I was forced to barricade myself and the children into the living room. They attacked the cage and ripped Mika apart," he said.

The dogs were finally removed from the house in West Midlands, by four specialist police dog handlers.

Police seized both dogs - a pit bull-type animal and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross.

Sam said, ""It was terrifying and my children were traumatised. I loved my dog dearly but I had to choose between protecting my children and protecting him."
