SUBANG JAYA: Two men pretended to come to the aid of a woman whose car had crashed but grabbed her handbag instead.

However, thanks to the victim’s good memory and quick action from the police, one was caught a few hours later – after a high-speed, 10km car chase.

The woman, a business executive in her 40’s, had been involved in an accident at Putra Heights at around 4.30pm on Sunday and was approached by the two men.

While pretending to help the woman out of the car, one of them quickly snatched her handbag and they fled in another car.

The victim, however, was able to remember specific details about the incident including the number plate of the getaway car.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar said police in a patrol car spotted a vehicle matching the description given by the victim at Putra Heights at about 3.45pm yesterday.

“Upon seeing the police, the driver quickly sped away forcing us to give chase,” he said.

The 10km chase involving several patrol cars ended in Bt 14 Puchong and the only occupant in the car, a man in his 30’s, was arrested.

Police recovered several tools in the vehicle which they believe were used for breaking into cars and houses.

“The car the man was driving was reported stolen earlier this month in Seri Kembangan,” ACP Zainal Rashid said, adding that police were still on the lookout for the second suspect.
