Driver dies as lorry crashes into house

KUALA LUMPUR: A cement lorry driver was killed after his vehicle hit a car coming from the opposite lane before crashing into a house in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras, here.

A couple in the car escaped with minor injuries while the residents of the double-storey house, a 77-year-old woman and her maid, were unhurt in the 12.30pm incident yesterday.

Ong Heng Sai, 52, who was trapped in the driver’s seat, died on the spot.

He was on the way to a construction site to deliver the cement.

Two fire engines from the Cheras and Hang Tuah fire stations rushed to the scene after being alerted by the police.

Firemen took about four hours to extricate Ong’s body from the lorry with the help of a crane.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported an incident where another lorry driver, B. Acutsamenon, 32, was buried alive while three of his workmates escaped unhurt during a landslide at a hill slope in the Taman Bukit Belimbing industrial area in Seri Kembangan yesterday.

Kajang acting police chief Supt Azman Ayob said, in the 10am incident, the four men were excavating land on the slope when the landslide occurred.
