Man falls to death like mum

GEORGE TOWN: An odd-job worker fell to his death from the same apartment block where his mother had also suffered the same fate five years ago.

The body of Chong Sin Hooi, 34, was found sprawled on the ground of the apartment block in Paya Terubong after falling from the 10th floor of the building yesterday.

A resident, who declined to be named, claimed that the body of Chong’s mother was also found there when she fell to her death five years ago. The resident said Chong’s mother had suffered from breast cancer.

Chong, who lived on the second floor with his family, was said to have been behaving strangely at home at about 11am yesterday.

It is learnt that his father had followed him when he left the apartment and went up to the 10th floor.

But by the time his father arrived on that floor, Chong had already fallen to his death.

It is believed that Chong was suffering from health problems. His family members who were at the scene were too distraught to speak to the press.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the case had been classified as sudden death.

Chong is the eighth person reported to have fallen to death in Penang since Jan 1.

The other victims include tuition teacher Lim Chee Hwa who fell to his death from a five-storey building on Perak Road on Jan 2 after celebrating his 21st birthday several days earlier. He was believed to be involved in a love triangle.

Another case involved wireman Fong Wei Shen, 22, who had persuaded his former girlfriend not to jump from the eighth floor of an apartment block but fell to his death later on Feb 11.

The most recent case was that of 17-year-old Lee Li Cheng who fell to her death from an apartment block in Jelutong on Feb 25.
