Foul play ruled out in stewardess' death

Dutch police have ruled out foul play in the death of Malaysia Airlines stewardess Chin Swee Len who was found dead in Amsterdam.

A Malaysian mission spokesman in the Hague said preliminary police investigation have ruled out any criminal element.

It is learnt that Chin’s family members are in Amsterdam and are working with the mission to bring her body home.

However, no further details are available at this point of time into the death of the 34-year-old Chin. Amsterdam police sources said Chin’s body was found outside a Schipol hotel by hotel staff.

“She was quickly brought indoors and attempts to resuscitate her failed and she was pronounced dead,” the source said.

Chin, 34, was reported to have been found dead early Friday morning after she failed to attend a pre-flight briefing for flight MH17 to Kuala Lumpur on January 14.

She had flown to the Dutch capital last Tuesday and was supposed to have returned to Kuala Lumpur Sunday.

Chin joined MAS in 1997 and the airline said her service record throughout her tenure had been exemplary. She leaves behind her husband, who also works in MAS, and a child.

MAS operations director Capt Azharuddin Osman said the airline was saddened by Chin’s death.

“Our main concern now is to support the family in every way we can,” he said in a statement.

“She is described by colleagues as disciplined, pleasant, genial and likeable,” Capt Azharuddin said.

In Seremban, Chin’s family are at a loss over her sudden demise.

Her father-in-law Cheng Soon Tek, 63, said the family was shocked by her death.

“I am waiting for my son’s (Chin’s husband) call. We have no clue as to how she died,” he said.

Cheng said his son Yin Chet, who was Seremban Gerakan division youth chief, left for Amsterdam immediately after they were given the tragic news.

It is learnt that the Chin’s older brother had also accompanied Yin Chet to Amsterdam.
