More good news on eco-tourism. A hotel made of litter has opened in Madrid's Plaza de Callao.
The AFP reports that the Beach Garbage Hotel, an art installation by German artist Ha Schult, is made of waste from rubbish dumps and Western European beaches.
Schult said: “I created the Beach Garbage Hotel because the oceans of our planet are the biggest garbage dump.”
Project spokeswoman Rose Piqueras said that she hoped the installation would contradict the traditional image of the tourist industry.
"We wanted to show what our holidays could become if we don't clean our beaches," she added.
The hotel is Schult's second 'trash hotel', following on from a similar exhibit in Rome last summer. It is open to the public until January 23.
