Back to school for mum

KUALA LUMPUR: After years of struggle and sacrifice to raise her children, single mother Maureen Sta Maria can now pursue her passion for knowledge.
“I raised my children to believe that education is the only ticket to freedom and success,” said Maureen, 49, adding that she took up accounting, secretarial and interior design courses to equip herself with additional skills

Ostracised by her family after she got divorced at the age of 27, Maureen took up a sales job to support herself and her two children.
Determined to see her children become successful, Maureen made the decision to migrate to the United States in 2007.
